Black medic

Medicago lupulina

Clover's skinny cousin with tiny yellow flower balls and black seed pods. It is a legume, so like clover it shows up where nitrogen is low.

  • •Small yellow ball flowers
  • •Black kidney-shaped seed pods
  • •Low sprawling mat in dry, hot, compacted spots
Why it is in your lawn

Low nitrogen, drought, compaction.

Best window

June and July.

1 · Fix the cause
  1. Feed the lawn
  2. Aerate and water the stressed areas
  3. Pull; shallow taproot
What you are signing up for

A nitrogen signal, like clover.
