What is this?

Take a close photo in good light, with one stem or leaf tip against your hand for scale. We only answer from the grasses and weeds that actually grow in collar-county lawns, and we say when we are not sure.

Photo identification is not switched on yet for this deployment. The written guides below work without it.
Tips for a good photo
  • Get within a foot. Fill the frame with the plant.
  • For grass: pull one blade and photograph the tip and where it meets the stem.
  • For weeds: show a leaf, a stem, and a flower or seed head if there is one.
  • Roll the stem in your fingers first. Square means mint family (creeping Charlie, henbit). Triangular means sedge.
