Foxtail

Setaria

A summer annual grass with a bushy, bristly seed head like a fox's tail. The seed heads can lodge in dogs' paws and ears.

How to tell

  • •Fuzzy cylindrical seed heads in late summer
  • •Wide flat blades, often with a twist
  • •Common in new lawns and disturbed soil
Why it is in your lawn

Bare or newly seeded soil.

Best window

Prevent in April, pull in July.

1 · Fix the cause
  1. Mow before seed heads form
  2. Overseed thin areas in September
  3. Pull clumps; roots are shallow
2 · Eco product
