Prostrate knotweed

Polygonum aviculare

A wiry, blue-green mat with small oval leaves that grows where the ground is beaten hard: along driveways, paths, and the kids' goal mouth.

Why it is in your lawn

Severe compaction. It is the most compaction-tolerant lawn weed there is.

Early March prevention; aerate in fall.

  3. Redirect foot traffic or install a path
