Spotted spurge

Euphorbia maculata

A flat, dense mat of tiny leaves with a red spot in the center, spreading from a single taproot along hot sidewalks and driveway edges.

How to tell
  • •Pancake-flat mat up to 2 feet wide
  • •Tiny oval leaves, often with a red-brown spot
  • •Milky sap (wear gloves; it irritates skin)
  • •Appears in July in hot, thin spots
Why it is in your lawn

Best window

July and August before seed set.
